PostSubject: Rimmington Mine vs. Dwarven Mine (Napkin math)   Tue Dec 06, 2016 6:48 pm

Hey guys, a little bit of explanation of what (and why) this is: I'm at 70 smithing aiming for 85 to craft my rune hatchet, and I was having a hard time mining my iron at rimmington mine (slightly further bank but access to urns) or the dwarven mine (extremely close deposit box but no good option for urns). I timed a few cycles using wsplit and took the averages, then started comparing the runs. The data is pretty self-explanatory, some things aren't 100% accurate (I timed a full 28 inventory of iron, which wouldn't account for the urn you'd have at rimmington) but it's close enough.

The decision comes down to: Do I want the extra 173,852 mining exp, or would I prefer to be done mining 4.5 hours sooner? Since my goal is to get a rune hatchet as quickly as possible, I think I'm willing to sacrifice the 1382exp/hour I'd gain at rimmington mine. Hopefully someone else gets some use from my notes though ^^

--------------

31.30s //rimmington mine bank run
13.04s //dwarven mine bank run
1.916667m //avg time per inventory

24816 //iron needed
887 //inventories needed

--------------

28.33h //time expected mining
7.71h //time expected rimmington bank runs (no urns)
3.21h //time expected dwarven bank runs

--------------

36.04h //rimmington total
31.54h //dwarven total
4.5h //difference

--------------

1043112 //exp with urns
869260 //exp without urns
173852 //difference

--------------

28943.17 //rimmington exp/hour
27560.56 //dwarven exp/hour
1382.61 //difference

Interesting research, Aeridi. It reminds me of Anafunctor's analysis which you may be interested in found here:

Ana's Guide to Urn Management

Thanks for that though, seems to be quite a considerable difference! Surprised

I've been thinking a lot about that topic too, thanks!

Thought of one last set to include:

689.12 //rimmington iron/hour (not accounting for urns in inventory)
787.44 //dwarven iron/hour
98.32 //difference
